Francophiliacs 2006-05-22

From North Africa Natasha Atlas helped us make the leap to Latin America, a quick stop in Senegal, a look at zouglou, and then to more traditional cafe music with the Paris Combo, Baguette Quartette, and finishing with a Cajun tune from the Pine Leaf Boys. The recording of this show begins with Las Rubias Del Norte singing "Le temps de l'amour". Enjoy! The playlist from this week's program can be viewed at http://www.francophiliacs.org/Francophiliacs20060522.pdf

For those of you listening to the podcast of our show in internet-land, be aware that this is the spring pledge drive for our station, and therefore we spend a lot of time begging for money on this show. The first 30+ minutes are all Celtic music from Brittany and Canada, followed by beats from the Caribbean, and then sprinkles from the rest of the world. Enjoy!
Today's show was a lot of fun to put together, since not only did we need to play only French or Francophone music, but it all needed to be performed by women artists! We succeeded (if we do say so ourselves...), and we hope you enjoy the result. Please excuse the stubborn Italian supermodel, she did sing the whole song for us in the end.

We've just uploaded today's show and playlist. Enjoy! We are always so surprised and happy when we get fun new music to play on the show. Just in, a mini-album from David Delabrosse (very nice) and the fascinating soundtrack to the Fetes de la Nuit (play by Charles Mee) which was fascinating! Stay tuned next week for more new music from the Baguette Quartette. We just love that you are out there listening, it's so much fun to be involved in bringing your music to WEFT's listeners in Chambana...and around the world! (Not to exaggerate... but it's true!) =)

We are both thrilled with a new CD sent to the station by the Baguette Quartette. Imagine, one of us lived a short drive (by California standards...) away from Berkeley not so long ago, and I didn't hear them or of them... You, on the other hand, might have already heard them on Putumayo's French Cafe Collection. Their 2004 release, titled Toujours, is a fun excursion down memory lane to the entre-guerres and beyond. We are obviously curious to know what's on the other albums... in the meantime, Champaign-Urbana and our internet listeners are surely having a blast listening to this one. Stay warm this weekend, if you are in Illinois or wherever this cold front is catching you and have an otherwise great week!
